Three engagements, one standard

Everything Sum Certain does falls into three shapes. Each runs to the same written standard, each is priced before work begins, and each ends with records you can hand to anyone.

Monthly bookkeeping + trust reconciliation

Core engagement · flat monthly fee

The ongoing operating standard for your firm's books: a fixed monthly close, a three-way reconciliation of the trust account reviewed and signed by Josh Hsu, and a plain-English report. This is the engagement most firms start with and stay on.

Deliverables

  • Monthly close by a fixed business day, every month
  • Three-way IOLTA reconciliation: bank statement ↔ trust ledger ↔ individual client ledgers
  • Founder review and sign-off on every reconciliation, timestamped and logged
  • A short monthly report in plain English: what tied out, what didn't, what needs your decision
  • Operating-account bookkeeping kept to the same close calendar
  • QuickBooks Online maintained as the system of record

Also included

  • Operating-account bookkeeping, on the same close calendar
  • Payroll coordination with your payroll provider
  • The February tax-preparer handoff: books delivered clean and current
  • A compliance-calendar layer that tracks your state's trust-filing dates (the WA renewal declaration, CA CTAPP registration, FL certificate) and flags them ahead of time

Not included

  • Running payroll
  • Paying your bills or A/P processing
  • Tax return preparation (referred to partner accountants)
  • Legal advice

Who it's for: Firms of 2–10 attorneys with an active IOLTA who want the trust account kept current as a matter of routine, not rebuilt once a year.

Cleanup & catch-up

Project · fixed quote, $800–$5,000

For books that have fallen behind. We reconstruct and repair the records until the trust account ties out cleanly, then hand you a current set of books and, if you want one, a monthly standard that keeps them that way.

Deliverables

  • Historical reconciliation repair, month by month, until the account ties
  • Commingling untangled and documented, with a clear record of corrections
  • Pre-tax-season cleanup so the February handoff stops being a project
  • A closing memo: what was wrong, what was fixed, what to watch

Who it's for: Firms whose trust records are months (or years) behind, often discovered at renewal time, before a move to new software, or when a tax preparer sends the books back.

Trust readiness & controls advisory

One-time projects · fixed quote, $1,500–$3,000

Fixed-scope projects for firms that want the surrounding system improved, not just the books kept: a Trust Readiness Assessment of your records and controls, a cleaner software setup, or deliberate preparation so the records are exam-ready at all times. Quoted before work begins, never by the hour.

Deliverables

  • Trust Readiness Assessment: a written assessment of your trust records and controls, with a prioritized fix list.
  • The CTAPP-Readiness Assessment for California firms: the records behind all fourteen answers, current and organized, before the bar asks.
  • Trust-account controls setup: who approves, who records, who reviews, and on what cadence
  • Software migration support (Clio, LeanLaw, QuickBooks Online) with reconciliation continuity
  • Written procedures your staff can follow month to month

Who it's for: Firms changing software, formalizing controls after growth, facing a CTAPP selection or state review, or wanting trust records that are exam-ready year-round rather than assembled under deadline.

Not sure which shape fits?

That is what the readiness call is for. Thirty minutes, no preparation needed. We will tell you plainly which engagement fits, including if the answer is none of them.
